Nia Vrana

Hi I'm Nia! I am a fourth year student at the University of Michigan studying Neuroscience with a Minor in Writing. Outside of classes, I work as a barista, study group facilitator and lab technician. I serve as an Executive Board member for three student organizations: the Women's Organization on Rights To Health (WORTH), Writer to Writer Literary Journal, and Salto Ballet Company. I have always had an interest in the intersectionality of neuroscience and philosophy, and this project allowed me to investigate that interest and learn more about the overlap between science and the humanities. After graduation, I would like to move to DC and continue my research on the cholinergic system at the National Institute of Health. After 1 or 2 gap years, I would like to attend Medical School with the hopes of becoming a Neurologist. My fascination with the complexity of the brain began in a high school psychology course and has continued to be my main preoccupation since. It is my goal to contribute to the expansion of our collective knowledge of brain function through research both within and without the medical field. Writing allows me to express my interests in a creative and engaging way, and serves as a means for me to express myself artistically outside of my main area of study. Other than writing, I enjoy reading, hiking, running, and traveling.

 Thanks for reading!
